Have you ever had a co-worker who was unreliable?  Like, so unreliable you just couldn’t even….Have you ever felt like your hands were tied to do anything since – you’re not their boss?

In this week’s video, I share how you can influence your co-worker and even get them to follow through (finally), without coming across like a jerk.
Here’s a sneak peek into the video:

Before you flip out, seek to understand why they’re so flaky.

There could actually be a “legit” reason for it.  Maybe they’re going through a major personal issue and are distracted.  Maybe overtime they try to follow through your boss asks them to do something else instead.  Regardless of what the reason is, you simply asking will make a bigger impact than you think.

Be real about how their flaky behavior affects every one else.

Believe it or not, people usually don’t realize how forgetting to send you that email, or showing up late can cause some serious headaches for others.  They may think it’s no biggie.  Educate them a little, once they know the impact they may regret their behavior and want to make a change for the team.

Know when to say ‘Uncle’

Sometimes people are just flaky.  Period.  Don’t keep trying to change someone who doesn’t want to change.

If despite their flakiness you’ve got to keep working with them (like everyone else), reset expectations on how you want to work together and be the bigger person by…offering support.

Bonus point:  If you know this co-worker flakes on you, don’t simply wait for them to flake again.  Gently remind them of the commitment they made, before you need it.  Just be careful not to nag.
