I am known for saying “mentoring is a privilege and not a right”.  Both roles of mentor and protege carry with them great esteem.  As a protege, people see something in you that you may not even see in yourself.  The role of mentor is a blessing where you have an opportunity to positively shape the lives of those around you.

That being said, not all mentoring relationships are considered equal.  Even those with the bet intentions can make a mentoring mess.

In this week’s video I go through the three things that really great mentors do.  In case you can’t watch the full vid, here’s the readers’ digest version:

Great mentors focus on building a true relationship not just complete mentoring activities.

Great mentors build your skill set AND give you character building traits that can last a lifetime.

Great mentors do what’s right for the mentee, even if the business doesn’t quite like it.
