Ever get annoyed by a co-worker who just always seem to find the silver lining?  Like…ALWAYS.

As you’ll see from this week’s viewer email, you’re not alone.  We all appreciate positivity, but sometimes, you’re just not in the mood.  But here’s the flip side.  What do you do when Little Miss Sunshine starts to get all types of recognition and assignments due to her “positive energy”?  How does a balanced realistic like you compete with the corporate sweetheart, without going all Tonya Harding on her ass?  In this week’s video, you’ll learn how you can boost your positivity and improve your career.

Here’s what most people don’t tell you about Happiness.  Some people are in fact naturally happy.  There is research to show Happiness has some genetic components to it.  But, the good news for you (my natural realist) is that it isn’t fixed.  Which means despite your genetic makeup, you can train yourself to be more positive on the regular.

Get your ZZZZ’s

The average adult needs 7.5 hours of sleep per night.  Sleep is a game of quality, not quantity.  Invest in products that helps track hours of sleep and quality, like a fitbit, apple watch or any app that works with your smartphone.  If you want to get your sleep quality up, make sure the mood is right.   Your mattress, sheets, pillows, curtains (even the color on the wall), can make or break that awesome nights’ rest.  In the habit of checking emails in bed?  Tell your smartphone “deuces” until the AM.  The blue screen from your smartphone or tablet is like daylight.  It triggers hormones in your body that say “Rise and Shine!”, when you really need to wind down.

Sweat It Out Daily

30 minutes a day keeps the negativity away.  I mean how can you be angry when you’ve got a six pack?  What exercise also does is trigger endorphins that signal to your brain “happy land”.  So exercise is great for prepping for summer, and prepping for a positivity take-over.

Meditate

Before you start envisioning a candle-lit room filled with little Buddhas, press pause.  Meditation is not about rituals, it’s actually about connecting with your surroundings, yourself and – if you prefer – a higher being.  I personally meditate on biblical readings daily, but you can meditate on whatever you want.  Still not a believer?  Check out some research.  Researchers show that meditation stimulates the let side of your brain and triggers positive emotions like (you guessed it) HAPPINESS  🙂

Now comes the fun part, I get to listen to you!  So tell me, was this helpful?  Leave a comment below, share your thoughts with other viewers and sign up for email updates.  You never know how your voice will impact someone’s life.  Need some personalized career attention?  Work with me and get 10x the career love and attention.

The corporate world needs that brilliance that only you bring.  So go out into the world, act with conviction, be courageous and live joyfully every single day.
